Alappuzha - A Perfect Backwater Retreat

Munnar

Munnar is a tranquil hill station nestled in the hills of Idukki district in Kerala. One of the most popular tourist destinations in Kerala, Munnar is located at a height of 1600 m above the sea level, offering stunning views like few others. A land that seems to have been plucked from the realms of fantasy and painted onto the canvas of reality, Munnar is magically ethereal in every facet. Undulating hills cloaked in emerald greenery, mist-kissed valleys, sprawling tea plantations, cascading waterfalls and the crisp mountain air together weave a tapestry of beauty like no other.

Kovalam

One of best beach experiences in Kerala is offered by the exotic shores of Kovalam. Apart from the shimmering waves and the alluring shores, Kovalam bestows one with the best Village Life Experience too making it a perfect spot in which to implement Responsible Tourism. The first meeting to prepare for the RT implementation at Kovalam held on 8th May 2007. On the same day the District Level RT Committee and the working groups in economic, environmental and social arenas were formed. On 28th Nov 2007, the DLRTC met again and on 14th May 2008, RT was formally launched in Kovalam. The geographical area of RT comprised Vizhinjam, Venganoor and Kottukal Panchayats.

Thekkady

A treasure trove of the Western Ghats, Thekkady derives its name from ‘thekku’, the Malayalam word for teak. Its unique flora and fauna make it a place unlike any other in the world. Home to many endangered species, Thekkady is cool and pleasant, which also explains why people love the place so much. The popular Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary is in Thekkady. Many species of wildlife including tiger, elephant, bison, sambar deer, leopards, boars, lion-tailed monkeys and others thrive here. Safari boats by the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation are available to take visitors on a ride through Thekkady lake. Herds of elephants laze around near forests making it a photographer’s delight. Places like Murikkady, Chellar Kovil, Anakkara, Mangala devi temple, etc., are other interesting places in Thekkady.A major tourism hotspot, Thekkady provides an unparalleled experience that brings visitors back time and again for a break from the urban chaos.
